Dr Clayton has 15 years experience managing children and adults with severe eczema (atopic dermatitis). He previously worked as a consultant in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and now leads the NHS paediatric dermatology service in Manchester.
Dr Clayton has published several articles on the treatment of eczema. Dr Clayton works with a specialist paediatric dermatology nurse colleague. This provides a holistic clinic focusing on diagnosis, treatment, dressings and education. Dr Clayton can advise on allergy testing and diet. In general unless there is an obvious trigger for your child’s atopic dermatitis allergy testing is not useful.

Appointments in the Manchester eczema clinic involve an initial diagnostic consultation with Dr Clayton. Atopic dermatitis education and training is then delivered by Nurse consusltant Georgina Devlin. Diagnostic tests may be reuqired including skin swabs, blood tests and allergy testing depending on the history and exanination findings.
Dr Clayton performs skin prick testing for children with eczema and patch testing for contact dermatitis.
